Ryan Murphy’s adaptation of Larry Kramer’s 1985 play about the early days of the AIDS epidemic captures all the original’s emotional and devastating anger. Mark Ruffalo anchors a top-notch cast as writer Ned Weeks, who in early 1980s New York City founded the Gay Men’s Health Crisis while battling the medical and political communities. Amazing and nuanced work from Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts and Jim Parsons as well. Not to be missed. 9 p.m. Sunday, May 25, on HBO.

He’s baaaaack! After a long 19 months, fans of Louis C.K.’s deadpan (and multiple Emmy-winning) comedy can rejoice. The back-to-back episodes that make up the season four premiere deal with a typical day for the stand-up comedian and his performance at a benefit. 10 p.m. Monday, May 5, on FX.
Season three of this Emmy-winning, wickedly funny comedy finds Vice President Selena Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) preparing a run for the nation’s top job. Dreyfus is hilarious (as always), and is matched quirk-for-quirk by the actors who play her inner circle (Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott and Tony Hale). 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 4, on HBO
