All is not well in the Bates household. Norman (Freddie Highmore) is not coping very well with the outside world, and mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) is…well…dead. The final season of this “contemporary prequel” to the classic 1960 suspense film has definitely improved with age. Later this season, a familiar character named Marion Crane (Rihanna) will check in. The final season of everyone’s favorite British drama begins in 1925 and change is in the air. Tom Branson has moved to Boston, the remaining staff worry about their jobs and neighboring estates are selling off their history. Writer/creator Julian Fellowes has given great moments to his stellar cast (Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Rob James-Collier, Sophie McShera). Season premiere, 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, on KCTS.

Parks-And-RecreationThis great comedy joins several other series (including “Cougar Town” and “Glee”) saying goodbye to fans this year. Last season ended with a bit of a troubling “time jump” for Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and the other government employees in small-town Pawnee, Ind. She has a new job with the National Parks Department. Let’s hope this series doesn’t alter any of its zany/heartwarming characters or story lines. Final-season premiere, 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, on NBC.
