Oh. My. #Sherlock
This 10-episode limited series is being billed as an “original adaptation” of the feature film. Creator Noah Hawley — with the Coen brothers’ blessing — uses the same bleak/chilly setting as the 1996 movie, but with a new crime and characters (played by Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Colin Hanks and Allison Tolman). Series premiere, 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, on FX.

Of course we knew he wasn’t dead, what with that brief glimpse of our hero at the end of Season 2, but how did he survive “The Reichenbach Fall”? Inspired co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss poke fun at fan theories and expectations in the Season 3 premiere, “The Empty Hearse.” Two (of many) highlights: the restaurant reunion of Holmes and Watson (Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman) and a motorcycle race through the streets of London on Guy Fawkes Day. #SherlockLives! 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, on KCTS.
The boys are back and in delightfully fine form. The second season of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ sly modern adaptations of the stories of “Sherlock Holmes” picks up right where Season One’s cliffhanger ended (remember the poolside standoff with Moriarty?). Holmes and Watson (the perfect matchup of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman) investigate “A Scandal in Belgravia” and tussle with the sultry dominatrix Irene Adler (Lara Pulver). This is some damn fine television. Watch at the risk of becoming hopelessly addicted. 9 p.m. May 5 on KCTS.
