Another new “Star Wars” movie trailer? Sure, I’ll take it.
Chris Rock should shake things up a bit as host of this annual awards ceremony that honors achievements in film. What’s not to love about Vincente Minnelli’s 1944 musical that follows the lives of the Smith family the year before the 1904 World’s Fair? You’ve got Margaret O’Brien, Marjorie Main and June Lockhart, plus the Christmas section of the film, featuring Judy Garland singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” It may be overly sentimental, but still a joy to watch. 10:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, on TCM.

“It’s hot as hell in Philadel-phia.” Spend part of your holiday watching this great 1972 film adaptation of the Broadway musical (by Peter Stone and Sherman Edwards) about the events leading up to July 4, 1776. Yes, it’s a musical, but it’s a ton of fun and features a stirring lead performance by William Daniels as John Adams. 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, on TCM.
