This engaging drama series (based on Elmore Leonard’s novella “Fire in the Hole”) enters its sixth and final season with the promise of a final showdown between Deptuty U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) and longtime criminal Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins). This show has featured some great writing and acting in past seasons (R.I.P. Margo Martindale’s Mags Bennett) and will truly be missed. Season premiere, 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, on FX.

It’s a new year, so that must mean a new season for this great Kentucky-set drama, based on Elmore Leonard’s story “Fire in the Hole.” In season five, Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) gets involved with the mysterious- (and dangerous-) sounding Crowe family. Season premiere, 10 p.m. Tuesday on FX

The season finales of this great drama, starring Timothy Olyphant as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, always deliver. Remember the fates of Robert Quarels (Neal McDonough) in season three, or Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale) in season two? After (mostly) resolving the case of Drew Thompson, season four is headed toward a major showdown between ultra smooth Raylan and mobster Nicky Augustine (Mike O’Malley, lightyears away from his kindly father on “Glee.). Oh, and you can always count on Boyd and Ava Crowder (Walton Goggins and Joelle Carter) being up to no good.

Buckle up. Quite literally anything could happen. Season finale, 10 p.m. on FX.

The memory of criminal matriarch Mags Bennett (Emmy-winner Margo Martindale) has been a powerful thread through the third season of this excellent series (based on the works of Elmore Leonard). In her absence, the creators have filled Harlan County with all sorts of criminals, including Mags’ tweaky son, Dickie (Jeremy Davies), the mysterious Ellstin Limehouse (Mykelti Williamson) and that bad penny, Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins). Nothing that came before could prepare us for this season’s “big bad,” though, the charming, unstoppable and downright evil “carpetbagger” Robert Quarles (Neal McDonough). Hold on tight, I feel a standoff coming between Quarles and U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) in tonight’s season finale. 10 p.m. Tuesday on FX.
