I’m not sure what exactly won me over about this deadpan comedy in its first season; Maybe it was Chip Basket’s (Zach Galifianakis) desire to be a French clown (it ended badly), maybe it was Martha (Martha Kelly), an insurance claims adjuster who wants to be Chip’s friend, but more than likely it’s Louie Anderson’s Emmy-winning turn as Chip’s mother, Christine. It’s not for everyone, but fans can rejoice for tonight’s season- two premiere, 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, on FX.

This engrossing survival show is back for a second season with 10 new participants (actually nine; a bear-obsessed contestant left at the end of last week’s premiere). For the uninitiated, the participants are transported to separate locations on the north end of Vancouver Island, where they must create shelter, find food and battle wildlife and the elements. No Jeff Probst-like host, no tribal council and no camera crews (the contestants handle the cameras themselves). Yep, you guessed it, they are truly … alone. 9 p.m. Thursday, April 28, on History.
Season two. This fall (eeeeek).
I’m sorry “Gracepoint,” but there’s nothing like the original.
In case you missed last Saturday’s season premiere, or worse yet, haven’t ever seen this clever, clone drama, you can jump in tonight with a repeat of the season two premiere. All the conspiracy stuff can get very complicated, but is worth watching for the amazing lead performance(s) of Tatiana Maslany in multiple roles. Seriously, this actress is amazing. 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, on BBC America.
